We
receive quite a few emails asking HOW TO RESIZE LAYOUTS so that they
can be uploaded to the
Shabby Shoppe's gallery. First thing to keep in mind is
that the vast majority of online galleries have a maximum size limit
for uploads. Here at the Shoppe - ours is rather large, by
industry standards - but will still not accommodate most full size,
12x12 (high resolution) layouts. So, in order to upload to our
gallery (or any other...or just to add to your own blog, etc.) - you
will want to RESIZE your layout first!
This
tutorial will help to explain how to resize your layout (or photo,
image, etc.) in Photoshop :o) There are others ways to
accomplish this same task - but I find this method to be super fast
and simple!
So,
this tutorial begins when you have completed your digital
scrapbooking layout, and it is open in PS. When you are sure
you are finished with your page...you may begin following the
instructions below :o)
NOTE: The layout featured in these screenshots was created
with the
HOPSCOTCH kit available at
the Shabby Shoppe :o)

|
Before
beginning this tutorial - BE SURE TO SAVE your LAYERED .PSD
FILE for future reference (and be sure NOT to save over it)
- you never know when you might need or want it again! |
-------------------------------------------

|
Then, once you
are ready to resize your page, click on LAYER and
then FLATTEN IMAGE. If you have 'hidden layers'
in your layers palette - PSE will ask if you would like to
delete those prior to flattening (select OK). |
-------------------------------------------

|
Now that your
image is 'flattened' - it is time to resize. Click on
IMAGE and then IMAGE SIZE (note that the
keyboard shortcut on a PC is ALT-CTRL-I). This will
bring up the 'image size' options window... |
-------------------------------------------

|
You will see
that your image is currently sized at 12x12 inches at
300ppi. This is the size it should be for printing
(unless you choose to print at 8x8, 10x10, etc.). This
is too large for uploading to most galleries, so this is
where we will resize! First, you want to check the box
next to RESAMPLE IMAGE (as well as scale styles and
constrain proportions). Then, change the resolution
from 300 to 72ppi. At this point, I simply
change the PIXEL DIMENSIONS to 600.
Assuming your layouts is square, the other attributes will
change automatically in proportion. |
-------------------------------------------

|
Once your
image size settings look like the image above (of course,
you can make them any size you like, but for our example, we
are looking for 600x600 pixels - so this is perfect) - click
OK to accept. Now, you should see that your
image is perfectly resized and ready to save! |
-------------------------------------------

|
To save
your new file, you simply click on FILE and then
SAVE AS!
NOTE:
Of course, you want to be sure that you do not save over any
previous versions...so I always add the word WEB to
the end of my file name. That way, I can always easily
find my web-sized versions for quick uploading, emailing,
blogging, etc. |
-------------------------------------------

|
Now, just
browse to the location on your hard drive where you wish to
save...give it a file name and click SAVE :o) |
-------------------------------------------
THAT'S IT :o) Now, you are ready to upload your layout or
image to our
gallery...your blog, or any other online location! I hope
this was helpful - have fun scrapping!
